Investigative news is in peril in South Florida.
Investigative reporting uncovers injustice, exposes corruption and holds those in public decision-making positions accountable for their actions.
But our area’s traditional newsrooms are distracted. Declining revenues have led to staff reductions and there simply aren’t enough reporters to cover all of the courts, government entities, public services and businesses that may run afoul of the law and ethical practices. Citizens who rely on corporately owned media to make sense of local government – and keep tabs on those who run it – no longer get the alert watchdog they expect.
In the fall of 2009, BrowardBulldog.org emerged from the turmoil that defines the new media marketplace. We keep watchdog journalism alive by paying attention to and publishing important stories that otherwise go uncovered because of shifting priorities and lack of resources in the region’s conventional media outlets.
We believe journalism is a public service that is essential to a free and democratic society. We are committed to bridging the gap by delivering more of the original, local, issue-oriented news and information our community needs.

I came to this site because I was impressed with browardbulldog.org’s work on the Gabrielle Shaink Trudeau story. I am not surprised that you are veteran journalists. I hope your funding remains solid.
I just saw the Broward Bulldog mentioned and thought I’d look you up. I founded the Austin Investigative Reporting Project (dba The Austin Bulldog) a year ago and got 501(c)(3) approval in September. I will go live with the site on April 1. I just thought I’d let you know you’re not the only Bulldog in the news business.

We love this site! A lot of our staff is from South Florida and were pleased to see it spring up. It gives us motivation to know this is happening elsewhere — not just at UCF.

Can you tell me if you heard anything about the broward school board swapping the KCW building for the atlantic bank building on cyress creek. Could they do with with out the citizens vote?
